The Rise of Robin Rich

The following is a political satire. Any similarities to reality is purely coincidental.

Deep within a remaining secret, American forest, the Merry Men remain united but now visibly disheartened.

Friar Tuck (wiping a tear): Hurry everyone, supper is ready.

Little John (clearing his throat): I’m not hungry.

Will Scarlet: Me too.

Much the Miller’s Son: I just refuse to believe that Robin Hood went with them willingly.

A sad symphony is heard; Alan-a-Dale sadly plays the harp and captures everyone’s attention.

Alan-a-Dale (shaking his head): I just, I – Robin was always our leader and helped us see the corruption from our time and rise against it.

Friar Tuck: Now, now men! If anyone should be this level of disheartened it should be Marian, his wife! He left us all, but he left her and their twins!! I would never have imagined that –

Marian Hood appears, and Little John and the other men notice; so, they try to inform Friar Tuck by clearing their throats.

Friar Tuck (cont’d): Robin Hood is a good-for-nothing scoundrel! I mean sure, we rescued each other, but to just betray – (a cacophony of noises from clearing their throats) What’s wrong with you all?! I told you that you need to drink some water and eat!

Marian Hood (politely): I believe the gentlemen were trying to let you know that I was present.

Friar Tuck (blushing): I – oh, dear – I, I’m sorry, Marian!

Marian Hood (smiling gently): I understand, but please, do remember that my children are still here, and that man is still their father. (whispering) Even if I do think he’s a loathesome, worthless rat now.

The Merry Men’s eyes widen in shock, and they look at each other.

Marian (cont’d): As the Friar mentioned, we cannot move forward without nourishment, so I suggest we all go and eat.

The Merry Men all nod and head over to the cauldron for their portion of food. Robin Hood, Jr. is serving the food.

Little John (ruffling Jr.’s hair): Wow, look at you bud! You’re almost as tall as I am!

Robin Hood Jr. (meeting Little John’s gaze): Since I just turned 18, can I now go with you all? Or am I liability now that my father betrayed us?

Little John looks shocked and turns to Marian and the other Merry Men.

Marian: Now, darling, it’s not like that, and you know it.

Robin Hood Jr.: I’m just trying to pick up my life and dreams after father left us for those 9 democRATs and most of the republiKKKan party.

Alan-a-Dale: Listen, kiddo. We get you, but it’s just – well, we don’t have a plan.

Friar Tuck (correcting): It’s not that we can’t make a plan without your father, but we just never thought of the idea –

Much the Miller’s Son: So, what we’re getting at is that I think we need some time to recover.

Robin Hood Jr. is consoled by his mother; the Merry Men all sigh disheartened and try to eat their food. Suddenly, a voice reprimands them all.

Marian’s daughter: Is that all? We just lay low and see how much further they get to destroy and hurt the American people?

Much the Miller’s Son: Sweetie, calm down. We get what you –

Marian’s daughter: No! I refuse! Besides, do any of you actually know my name?

Friar Tuck: Now, now, little one, it’s understandable that –

Marian’s daughter: Wow, Friar, must I remind you that you christened both me and my brother?! Everyone only remembers Junior and has so many hopes for him, but now that our father has betrayed us all, you question my family’s loyalty.

Little John: I mean your father trained Junior almost exclusively! Who’s to say that he isn’t a current spy in our midst?!

Robin Hood Jr. (angered): What?!? So you do have a plan, and you think I’m like my father?!??

Marian tries to calm Junior down.

Alan-a-Dale (trying to ease the tension): No, we don’t have a plan, but we have been a bit hesitant to even create one. I mean where would we even begin?

Marian’s daughter: We begin by actually uniting again, especially to retaliate at this time.

Little John: But, how do we know –

Marian: That we are loyal to the cause still?

Marian’s daughter: We’ll go through with my plan, and we won’t touch any of the stolen gold and wealth that we recover from the plan.

The Merry Men all look at each other, and they decide to nod in agreement. Marian’s daughter tells them the plan at which point, the Merry Men begin to gain hope and courage.

Robin Hood Jr. (confused): Wait, sister, when did you learn how to do all this?

Marian’s daughter: While you and father were busy learning sword fighting and archery, I focused on reading books and hearing our past.

Marian: So, we’ll move forward with this new plan soon, right, everyone?

The Merry Men and Robin Hood Jr. all cheer and now happily finish their meals, and some even go for seconds.

Friar Tuck (quietly): I’m sorry we mostly only doted on your brother.

Marian’s daughter (chuckles): You still don’t remember my name, do you, Friar?

Friar Tuck and the Merry Men all blush in embarrassment.

Marian’s daughter: Well, that’ll make this easier; my name shall Robin Rich from now on.

BLACKOUT.
